Full Moon Surprise #71

The misconception that there is no sound in space comes from the fact that much of space is a vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. However, there is so much gas in galaxy clusters that it can carry sound waves. In the Perseus cluster (where lives a black hole), the NASA Chandra observatory has been listening to some of these. Here its amplified and lifted 57 octaves in a process called sonification that makes it audible to human hearing.
The first 33 seconds of this track are these Perseus galaxy cluster black hole sonifications as presented by NASA. (I reckon you’ll agree that it sounds pretty spooky. But also beautiful). Following that, I begin to play on top.

about

Thomas Truax Birmingham, UK

"Thomas Truax crafts rich, poetically evocative songs about insects, trees, technology, and a lifelong obsession with all things lunar. He travels the world performing with his "band" of bizarre self-made instruments including a motorized drum machine made with bike wheels and a souped-up Gramophone called 'The Hornicator', as well as his venerable guitar 'Hank'.
